31 DAYS OF HORROR! - Day 21: What's your favourite horror franchise?

I'm being very generous when I pick the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise as my favourite based on only three out of the seven films. The three being the original and it's two following sequels, Freddy's Revenge and Dream Warriors.

There are two reasons why I keep returning to this much loved franchise that has become embedded in popular culture. The first reason is of course Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, who gave it his all in every film. His very psychical style of acting is what makes him so great to watch, as well as his delivery of the countless wise-cracks which brought a very twisted and dark comedic element to the later films. The second reason are the many dream sequences. Being that the series is centre around nightmares, this allowed the film-makers a lot of creative freedom. Some were less inspired than others but they were all unique for the most part, offered mind bending visuals and creating a sense of disorientation.

Here my official Elm Street ranking:
1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
5. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
7 Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Now I'm going to close with a controversy comment, really just to find out if anyone actually agrees. Heather Langenkamp is a really lousy actress.
