An American Werewolf in London would be a very different movie if it wasn't for it's definitive soundtrack. The use of upbeat songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Van Morrison and The Drifters to name a few; cleverly tie in perfecting with the film's theme, adding a light comedic spin but without diminishing the scare factor. The soundtrack is so effective that you'll forever associate the numerous hit songs with the film, even if you've been enjoying listening to them for years prior to seeing it.
